Move Inventory WMS

The optimal process for moving inventory in Deacom involves identifying where the inventory is located and if possible the specific lot to be moved. The process for handling moving inventory on the scanner is detailed below.

Security in the main application also applies to the scanner to determine how users can move lots out of specific inventory buckets. For example, lots in quarantine can only be moved into regular inventory by users who have access to the "Inventory - Move from quarantine" security will be able to move inventory out of quarantine on the scanners.

Unit

Displays the stock unit for the selected item. Assists users with determining what unit of measure they are moving.

  • Users with the "WMS -- convert from unit when moving" security set to Yes can select another unit of measure in this field. This will cause the system to convert the quantities in the "On Hand" and "Move Qty" fields to that unit of measure. Useful for converting quantities on the fly when moving parts in units other than the stock unit of measure.
  • If the Part Number selected has a "Container Unit", the Container Unit will be defaulted in this field.

On Hand

Displays the quantity of this item in the inventory bucket for the selected facility, source location and lot.

Move Qty

The quantity of this item that will be moved. Information can be scanned or obtained by using the "Find" button to select the correct quantity and lot.

If checked, the "Move Quantity" on the "Move Inventory" form is defaulted to the lot balance whenever the On Hand/Balance Quantity is updated or refreshed on the form. This system option applies to the main Deacom application and the Warehouse Management System. This feature was added to provide users with another default value option other then "0" when a new lot in selected on the "Move Inventory" form.

  • The prompt, "Please specify a non-zero quantity to move", will be displayed when trying to move inventory using the system option "Quantity Decimals" and using unit conversions.

System Lot

Displays the lot number that was scanned or selected after using the "Find" button.

  • If the "Lot Chooser Select" field on the WMS tab in Inventory > Options is set to "Manual," a system lot will be required when moving lots in the WMS application.
  • If the security setting "Inventory -- allow move of entire location" is set to "No", a system lot will be required when moving lots in the WMS application.

Option to select from Inventory, Quarantine, Staging, Staging - Sale, or Staging - Job. Note that after completing a move transaction, the value in the this field will be retained for the next move. User may change this as needed. The "-Sale" and "-Job" variants for Staging allows you to disable the move quantity and set it to the full amount of the chosen type. Therefore, when a move is performed, only lots that are staged to either a Sales Order or a Job will be moved.

The move from "QC Pending" option has also been modified to support the option to move inventory as it is being received via Purchase Order, but before the order is saved. This option is used in situations where a customer receives a purchase orders in two steps. For example, first the material is removed from the truck and placed on the floor, then it is looked over and verified for damage/quality reasons before being put away in the warehouse by another forklift operator. The security setting "Inventory--Move Pending Receipt" controls access to this feature. The process is outlined below:

  • Two users are logged into the main application or the WMS application.
  • Purchasing > Receive PO.
  • Enter part number user lot and click next.
  • The other user navigates to Inventory > Move Inventory.
  • Enter same part number and user lot.
  • Set the move to option to "Pending".
  • Enter user lot and quantity.
  • Move the inventory
  • Worker visually checks material on the floor.
  • Once done, the PO is received and saved.
  • The inventory that was in pending is now moved to the location specified.

Indicates the Container in which inventory to be moved is currently located. Additional information on moving inventory within Containers is available via the Utilizing Containers page.

  • 250 can be used in Barcodes to represent the Source Container.

Suggested Location

Display only. The location suggested by the system when using the "Put Away" button during the Move Inventory transaction.

  • The Put Away Rule form contains a flag entitled "Fill Partial Location Prior To Empty Location." If this flag is checked, the system will check for a location that currently has inventory that meets the Put Away Rule criteria and then use that location first to capacity before trying to fill closer locations.

Drop down list displays all the active location types for the selected facility.

New Loc

Drop down list displays all the active locations for the selected facility. When users scan a location bardcode (GS1-128 or data matrix) into the "New Location" field the system will automatically populate the "New Location Type" and "New Facility" fields based on the Location that has been scanned or entered.

  • When using the "Put Away" button, users will be able to select the location in this field. Users with the security setting "WMS - allow putaway without physical scan" set to no must scan the location where material will be placed.

New Container

Container to which inventory will be moved.

  • Lots with a serial number matching the number of the container they are in will not be moved to the new container during a full container move.
  • Additional information on moving inventory into Containers or moving inventory within Containers is available via the Utilizing Containers page.

  • Companies can require a Reason Code be entered when moving inventory to Quarantine via the "WMS -- require reason code when moving to quarantine" security setting.

Use Entire

Drop down box with "None", "User Lot", and "Container". "User Lot" is set as the default. If a barcode with a container AI is scanned, this box will default to "Container". In other cases, this box will default to "None". This box is useful in situations where users wish to move primarily multiple catch weight items from one location to another all at once. The process starts by first scanning or entering the catch weight item and the appropriate user lot or container. If the "User Lot" option is selected, all fields on the move inventory form will be grayed out except the part number, user lot, new location type, and new location fields. If the "Container" option is selected, all fields on the move inventory form will be grayed out except the part number, container, new location type, and new location fields. Once the move is complete, all items contained in the specified user lot, even if the items are located in multiple locations, will be moved to the new location.

  • Note: The security settings: "WMS -- allow move of entire user lot" is available for this drop down box. When enabled the Use Entire combobox on the WMS Move Inventory form will be enabled and allow users to move inventory from an entire user lot, regardless of locations(s). Specifically, If you have the same user lot in different locations, with this security set to yes, and by selecting Use Entire USER LOT on the scanner gun, it will move all user lots to the location selected on the gun. This security is useful for preventing users accidentally selecting, or leaving as defaulted, the "User Lot" selection in this box in situations where this is not the desired effect. If the security setting is set to "No", the "Use Entire" field cannot be changed to anything other than "None".

Find

Displays a list of available lots for the selected item that can be moved. After a lot has been selected click the "Choose" button to select the lot location. At this point users will select the specific lot from this location and hit the "Choose" button again. The system will display the "Item Detail" form regarding this item/lot. Users will click the "Select" button to complete the process and return to the "Move Inventory" form.

Details

Click to see additional information as such as catch weight, density, serial #, and expiration dates and attributes for the selected lot. Note that the serial # will only be displayed if the part is marked for serialization and the system will ignore the serial number for parts that are not marked for serialization.

Put Away

If selected, shows the operator only those locations that have the capacity available to store the lot being removed. The use of this option requires the location capacity and location UOM fields to be populated on the location form. Additional information on this option is available via Inventory > Maintenance > Locations.

  • Note: Deacom supports two different put away options, directed put away and zone put away. Both options are used with the WMS application. The put away button directly supports the directed put away option. The above mentioned link provides complete information.

Move

Completes the move process. A confirmation screen will appear verifying that the move was completed. Note that if lots are in an "in-transit" status, users can be prevented from moving them via the "Inventory -- move in-transit inventory" security setting.

Exit

Cancels the moving process and exits to the main WMS menu. Lots scanned or selected previously will not be moved.

Notes:

  • When scanning 3 of 9 barcodes, the cursor on the scanner must first be placed in the field corresponding to the barcoded information. For example, if scanning a Deacom part number, the cursor must first be placed in the part number or item field within the Deacom WMS application running on the scanner.
  • The "buttons" in the WMS application can be scanned via a 3 of 9 barcode. This is useful in situations where workers cannot remove their cloves to hit the buttons on the scanner menu. Additional information is available via WMS > Barcode Setup.
  • When using a GS1128 barcode with an AI # 95, Deacom Location, the new location gets filled in instead of the source location. However, If the source location is blank, the source location gets filled in.
  • Users can also barcode a valid printer name. Once done, users can scan this printer in the "Printer" field on transactions throughout the WMS application to have the printer selection populate the field.
  • If "Backflush Catch Weights on WMS" is checked, when a Master Lot label is scanned and possesses all lots of the same item with equivalent catch weights, the quantity entered on the form is treated as the quantity of lots to use. When the action is processed, the system backflushes lots out of the Master Lot in FEFO order.

Tote Receiving Tool feature

Introduced in version 17.04.007

This transaction allows users to receive serialized tote container items into one facility from multiple sources which could be from other facilities or from customer sites with one transaction. The process is covered in detail via the Utilizing the Tote Receiving Tool page. Note this feature only applies to WMS.

This feature transaction is triggered when users scan a part/serial and has the new security set and the part number / serial is found in a container in another facility or customer inventory. Note that users can then scan multiple totes before selecting the Move button and all the totes will be added to one transaction (regardless of if they are from another facility or customer inventory

When this feature is used and the conditions for tote receiving are meet as discussed in the link above, the Move From, Move To, Job Number, Src Lot Type, Src Location, Src Container, Src Container, Suggested Location, New Container, New Vehicle, Use Entire, Master Wgt, and Find fields will be disabled on the WMS Move Inventory screen.
